Camp Focus:

  • Academic and Pre-College Camps: Law
  • Academic and Pre-College Camps: Leadership
  • Academic and Pre-College Camps: Public Speaking and Debate
  • Description:

During your first 48 hours at the St. Albans School of Public Service, you might . . . take part in a mock Supreme Court argument of a current case . . . visit the Supreme Court to talk to a sitting Justice . . . get argument tips from some of the top Supreme Court lawyers in the country.

What might you do the rest of your four weeks this summer? Debate key public policy issues using graduate-level case studies. Take part in a sophisticated computer simulation where you play a first term member of Congress--you'll pick committee assignments, spend money on campaigning, engage in spin control . . . but will you be re-elected? Host a formal dinner for ambassadors from around the world. Talk to public servants from Senators to FBI Agents to U.S. Army Special Forces Officers to State Department Foreign Service Officers. Make a political commercial. Explore DC, from the Monuments to the Museums to the National Mall.

Oh, and debate and argue and discuss politics and public policy with thirty-five students your age from all over the country and the world (all of whom, like you, have a passionate interest in public service, public policy, politics, or government).

The School of Public Service is a one-month co-educational residential and day summer program for rising high school seniors. Students live at the historic St. Albans School, located on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral. (Local students from the Metropolitan DC area also attend as day students.)  The School of Public Service begins accepting applications for the 2010 session on December 1, 2009--our online application is available on our website!  Interested in a closer look?  Check out our summer 2009 in-session blog on our website!

    Sessions:

    2010 Dates: June 27-July 24, 2010.
