  • Description:

Camp Firebird is a traditional summer youth camp for girls, specializing in horsemanship and water-sports, along with a broad international program. Our traditions stand 50+ years proud while still changing and growing at the pace of a modern world.

Camp is set on 104 acres of grassy fields and tree-covered hills, nestled along the shores of the nine mile-long Leesville Lake. This makes for a comforting harmony between nature's beauty and active camp life. Campers and counselors share the summertime opportunities to grow and succeed well into the college years. The staff's friendly and supportive personalities help campers to enjoy a happy and challenging yet worthwhile and rewarding summer at camp.

Programs are planned according to campers on the list. Special events, sports, specialized instructors in areas of interest, and camp trips are planned not only for enjoyment but also developing skills that can only be learned through participation. Each summer is distinctly different from the previous as returning campers bring with them an already established and accelerated attitude of leadership and confidence.

Some things never change, especially cherished camp time activities, including swimming. Lessons are offered for weaker swimmers, who are able to earn badges in the area. Beach activities include sailing, canoeing, motorboating, and the Aqua Jump - a 20 foot water trampoline. Our large ski dock is used for instruction in kneeboarding, tubing, waterskiing, and motorboating - or just lying in the sun.

The majority of the staff have worked their way up through the camper ranks, returning faithfully year after year to pass on their knowledge and skills onto a new generation of campers. Other staff are screened by the international program "Camp America," or and internship program offered by Indiana University. The faculty undergoes one week of training each year where they are certified or re-certified in CPR and first-aid, trained in water rescues, boating safety, cabin rules, and safe and progressive lesson plans.

We sincerely hope that you will consider making your child a camper here at Firebird this summer. Experience and knowledge regarding the importance of being a kid is something we pride ourselves on. First time campers are welcome and within a few days will easily settle into the loving atmosphere that is projected by the counselors, the directors, and the parents alike.
